Hong Kong Bed Sheet & Mattress Size Guide

Single, Double, Queen and King are not universal measurements. In Hong Kong, two mattresses carrying the same size name can still differ in width, length and depth depending on the brand, model and market standard.

Use this guide to compare common Hong Kong bedding and mattress sizes, including Simple ol’ Me / MDV Mall, IKEA, Casablanca, A-Fontane, UJI Bedding, Natural Home, Sea Horse, Airland, SINOMAX, Emma, EMMAS and other familiar brands. • For fitted sheets: measure mattress length, width and total depth. Do not order from “3 ft”, “Double” or “Queen” alone.
• The same size name can mean different measurements: a mattress around the 5 ft / Queen category may be 150 × 200 cm, 150 × 203 cm, about 152 cm wide, or another nearby specification.
• Simple ol’ Me standard fitted-sheet depth: 10 in / 25 cm.
• Mattress depth matters: pillow-top mattresses, toppers and thick protectors can make an otherwise correct fitted sheet too shallow.
• Non-standard mattresses are common: platform beds, imported mattresses, custom bed frames, children’s beds and older Hong Kong sizes are especially worth measuring.
• For duvet covers and pillowcases: measure the actual insert rather than copying an old cover.

Common Hong Kong mattress-size names are only a starting point

Hong Kong uses a mixture of traditional imperial descriptions, metric dimensions, European-style sizes and brand-specific standards. A size name is useful for conversation, but it is not precise enough for made-to-measure bedding.

These ranges are for orientation only. Brand, model, year, country of origin, pillow-top construction and mattress depth can change the final dimensions.

Common bedding brands in Hong Kong: fitted-sheet size reference

Bedding brands do not always use the same dimensions even when the label sounds identical. Always check the exact product specification because size and pocket depth can change between ranges.

Why can a fitted sheet fail even when both products say Single, Double or Queen?

Because the name is a category, not an engineering specification. Around the 5 ft / Queen category, our standard 5 ft fitted sheet is 150 × 203 cm with a standard depth of 10 in / 25 cm, while some mattresses are 150 × 200 cm and other Hong Kong models are around 152 cm wide. A few centimetres can matter once mattress thickness, pillow-top construction and a topper are added.

A fitted sheet that is too small may pull tightly, lift at the corners or become difficult to install. A fitted sheet that is too large may look loose, wrinkle, bunch or move during sleep.

Common mattress brands in Hong Kong: size systems and fitted-sheet considerations

Mattress brands often create more sizing complexity than bedding brands because the same width may be sold in several lengths, while mattress depth can vary dramatically between a slim foam mattress and a deep pillow-top model.

Common pain points caused by the wrong fitted-sheet size

• Corners keep popping off: the sheet may be too small, too shallow, or stretched over a mattress plus topper that is deeper than expected.
• The sheet looks loose and wrinkled: it may be too wide, too long or designed for a deeper mattress.
• The elastic sits halfway up the mattress: pocket depth may be insufficient.
• The fitted sheet is difficult to put on: the nominal bed size may be right while the real mattress is larger.
• A new topper makes the old sheet fail: added depth can be enough to pull the corners upward.

When should you consider a custom fitted sheet?

A custom fitted sheet is not necessary for every bed. If your mattress closely matches a standard ready-made size and the pocket depth is adequate, a standard sheet is usually simplest. For Simple ol’ Me, the standard ready-made fitted-sheet depth is 10 in / 25 cm. Custom sizing becomes useful when the mattress length, width or depth does not match common ready-made bedding; when a topper is kept permanently on the mattress; when the bed uses an unusual platform or inset frame; or when ready-made sheets repeatedly feel too tight, too loose or come off at the corners.

Material choices after the size is correct

Duvet covers and pillowcases should be measured separately

Lay the duvet insert flat and measure its actual width and length. Do not automatically copy an old duvet-cover size because the old cover may have shrunk or may never have fitted correctly. For pillows, measure the pillow insert itself; oversized, long, high-profile memory-foam or unusual shapes may need a different case.

Frequently asked questions

Are Single, Double, Queen and King standard sizes in Hong Kong?

No. They are useful category names, but exact width, length and depth can differ between traditional Hong Kong sizes, metric systems, imported mattresses and individual brands.

Why does my 3 ft fitted sheet not fit my 3 ft mattress?

The actual mattress may be closer to 90, 91 or 92 cm wide, its length may differ, and mattress depth can add another mismatch. Compare the actual centimetre measurements.

Which Simple ol’ Me size should I choose?

I bought an IKEA, Sea Horse, Airland, SINOMAX, Emma or EMMAS mattress. Which fitted sheet should I choose?

Find the exact model specification, then measure real mattress length, width and total depth. The brand name alone is not enough because one brand can sell several lengths and depths.

What if my mattress is thicker than 25 cm?

For Simple ol’ Me ready-made fitted sheets, the standard fitted-sheet depth is 10 in / 25 cm. If a pillow top, topper or protector will be enclosed inside the fitted sheet, include it in the total measured depth. If the combined depth exceeds the standard 25 cm depth, consider a custom fitted-sheet depth. Other brands may use different pocket depths.

Can I order a custom fitted sheet if I only know my bed is Queen Size?

We do not recommend ordering from the Queen label alone. Measure the mattress in centimetres, including length, width and depth.

Should I include a topper in mattress depth?

Yes, if the topper is normally kept on the mattress and the fitted sheet will wrap around both mattress and topper.

Can a fitted sheet be too deep?

Yes. Excessive pocket depth can leave loose fabric under or around the mattress. The best fit comes from matching width, length and depth rather than assuming deeper is always better.
