What is 120s Fine-Denier Lyocell Cotton?

This made-to-measure Simple ol’ Me bedding fabric uses a confirmed composition of 60% Lyocell and 40% long-staple cotton. The Lyocell portion contributes a smooth, fine and more fluid surface feel, while long-staple cotton introduces a softer sense of structure and a slightly more grounded hand.

“Fine denier” and “120s” describe different things. Fine denier refers to the direction of using finer fibres, while 120s refers to yarn-count information. Neither number by itself determines overall fabric quality or performance. Fibre quality, spinning, weave, fabric weight, dyeing and finishing all influence the final hand feel and wear characteristics.

Why offer a 120s Lyocell-cotton blend?

100s 100% Lyocell is attractive because of its very smooth, soft and flowing feel. At the same time, finer and softer bedding fabrics generally deserve more attention to friction, laundering and daily handling.

The purpose of adding 40% long-staple cotton is not to “correct” pure Lyocell. It is to create another tactile option: preserve the smooth direction many customers like about Lyocell while adding a softer, more substantial cotton hand. Designed for a balanced everyday feel — but gentle care still matters

Any fine, high-count bedding fabric can develop surface fuzzing or localised pilling when exposed to repeated friction or aggressive washing. With 40% long-staple cotton added to the blend, this 120s fabric is positioned around balancing smoothness, fabric body and everyday use. However, we do not describe it as pilling-proof.

If a small amount of pilling has already appeared: lay the fabric flat and gently use a dedicated fabric shaver in one direction. Avoid pulling pills off by hand or aggressively brushing the surface.
