How to measure for custom bedding

Made-to-measure bedding starts with the actual item you want to cover. Measure the mattress, duvet insert or pillow itself—not the bed frame, product-size label or an old cover.

Use centimetres or inches

The international calculators accept cm or inches. If you enter inches, the calculator converts them to centimetres for production and saves both the customer-entered dimensions and production dimensions with the order.

1. Measuring a fitted sheet

Width

Measure straight across the mattress from side to side at its widest normal point.

Length

Measure from the head end to the foot end of the mattress.

Depth

Measure vertically from the top surface to the bottom edge without compressing the mattress.

Topper or protector? Include a topper or protector in the measured depth only when it normally stays on the mattress underneath the fitted sheet. Measure the combined actual depth rather than adding a guessed allowance.

2. Measuring a duvet cover

Lay the duvet insert itself as flat as practical and measure its actual width and length from edge to edge. Do not assume the dimensions of an old duvet cover are correct; covers can be intentionally larger, may have changed through washing, or may belong to a different insert.

Enter the insert size only. The production calculator applies the internal cutting allowances; customers should not add their own sewing allowance.

3. Measuring a pillowcase

Measure the actual pillow's width and length. For a shaped, extra-thick, contour or unusually long pillow, add a clear note in the order remarks. If the shape cannot be represented reliably by width and length alone, contact MDV Mall before ordering.

Common measuring mistakes to avoid

  • Measuring the bed frame instead of the mattress.
  • Using only a label such as Queen, King or Single.
  • Measuring an old fitted sheet instead of the mattress.
  • Adding extra centimetres or inches “for safety”.
  • Forgetting a topper that always stays on the mattress.
  • Measuring duvet-cover fabric instead of the duvet insert.
  • Rounding measurements aggressively before entering them.

Measurement FAQ

Should I add extra depth to a fitted sheet?

No. Enter the actual measured mattress depth, including only layers that normally remain underneath the fitted sheet.

Can I submit inches?

Yes. Select inches in the international calculator. The system converts the values to centimetres for production while retaining the original inch measurements in the order data.

What if my mattress has rounded corners?

Enter the actual overall dimensions and use the order remarks to describe unusual corner construction. For strongly shaped or non-rectangular mattresses, contact MDV Mall before ordering.

What happens if I enter the wrong measurements?

Made-to-measure products are produced from the confirmed order information, so customers must check their measurements before ordering. Clearly unusual measurements may be queried before production.
