Custom pillowcases in Hong Kong: measure the pillow itself, not the old pillowcase
Standard, Queen, Memory Foam, Contour, Kids and Long Pillow are useful product descriptions, but they are not exact measurements. For a made-to-measure pillowcase, start with the actual pillow length and width. For thick, shaped or unusually long pillows, provide the maximum thickness and a shape note as well.

Why old covers are unreliableWhy should you measure the pillow rather than the old pillowcase?
The pillow is the object the new case must fit. An old pillowcase can change after washing, stretch during use, or simply have been the wrong size from the beginning.
The old case may have shrunk
Repeated laundering can change the dimensions of the fabric and opening.
It may already fit poorly
Copying an oversized or overly tight pillowcase simply reproduces the same problem.
Seams affect outside dimensions
The finished case includes seam and opening construction, so measuring its outside edges is not the same as measuring the pillow.
Special pillows need more context
A contour or cylindrical pillow cannot always be described accurately with a generic Standard or Queen label.
How to measure a pillow for a custom pillowcase
Remove the existing pillowcase, place the pillow on a flat surface and let it return to its natural shape. Do not squeeze the filling or stretch the outer shell.
Length
Measure from one end of the pillow to the other at the longest natural point.
Width
Measure from the upper edge to the lower edge at the widest natural point.
Thickness
For thick memory-foam, contour or unusual pillows, record the maximum natural thickness as additional information.

How to measure standard, memory, contour, kids and long pillows
Measure maximum length and width
For an ordinary sleeping pillow, the two main dimensions are usually enough when the pillow is not unusually thick or shaped.
Add the maximum thickness
Solid foam can have a higher or more defined profile than loose filling. Provide length, width, maximum thickness and the pillow type.
Describe the profile
Measure the maximum overall length, width and height. Mention that the pillow is contoured, wave-shaped or ergonomic.
Measure the longest dimension carefully
Record maximum length and width. For a round or cylindrical design, provide the diameter or maximum width and clearly state the shape.
Ignore the age label
Measure the actual pillow instead of estimating from terms such as toddler, junior or children’s pillow.
Send measurements plus a photograph
Square, wedge, bolster or specialty shapes may require clarification before a suitable cover construction is confirmed.
Should you pull a soft pillow flat before measuring?
No. Let the pillow sit naturally. Pulling a soft down, feather or fibre pillow outward can artificially increase the measured length or width. Compressing it can do the opposite.
Use the maximum natural dimensions that the pillow reaches when it is lying normally. For a pillow that changes shape easily, take the measurement more than once and use the most consistent result.
Do not add arbitrary extra centimetres
Submit the actual pillow dimensions rather than increasing the length or width because you think the case needs sewing allowance. The finished construction accounts for how the fabric must be cut and sewn.
