How to Measure a Mattress for Custom Fitted Sheets in Hong Kong: Length, Width and Depth

For a custom fitted sheet, measure the mattress itself: length × width × total height. Do not rely only on labels such as Single, Double, Queen or King, because mattresses sold in Hong Kong can follow local, IKEA, European, US or other imported dimensions.

Use actual dimensions, not the size name
Our bedding team regularly handles deep mattresses, toppers, IKEA and imported sizes, platform beds and other non-standard beds. For production, the useful information is the mattress’s actual length, width and height in centimetres. If a topper stays on the bed and will sit inside the fitted sheet, include it in the total height.
This measurement-first method prevents a common problem: two mattresses can both be called “Queen” while having different real dimensions.
Step 1: Measure the mattress length
Measure from the top edge to the bottom edge of the mattress in a straight line. Keep the tape measure flat and avoid following a curved or rounded edge.
Step 2: Measure the mattress width
Measure from one side edge to the other at the widest usable point. Again, use the mattress itself rather than an old fitted sheet.
Step 3: Measure the total mattress height
Measure from the bottom edge of the mattress to the top sleeping surface. If you use a topper permanently and expect the fitted sheet to cover both mattress and topper, measure the combined height.
Do not measure an old fitted sheet
An existing fitted sheet may have stretched, shrunk or been the wrong size from the beginning. Measuring the mattress gives a more reliable production reference.
Special cases to note
- Rounded mattress corners: note the shape if unusually pronounced.
- Platform beds: check whether the mattress is recessed into a frame and whether the sides can be reached easily.
- Wall-adjacent beds: limited access may affect whether a traditional or detachable zipper fitted-sheet structure is more convenient.
- Mattress protectors: thin protectors usually do not materially change the measurement, but bulky toppers can.
For difficult bed structures, compare the detachable zipper fitted sheet as a structural option.
Which custom fabric should you choose?
Once the dimensions are confirmed, choose the material by hand feel rather than assuming a higher yarn-count number is automatically better.

What dimensions should you submit?
For a fitted sheet, submit:
- Mattress length
- Mattress width
- Total mattress height, including a permanent topper if applicable
- Any unusual bed-frame restriction or shape that may affect fitting
Common examples
Imported mattress with an unfamiliar size label
Ignore the label for production purposes and use the actual centimetre dimensions.
