Custom Bedding for Odd-Size Mattresses in Hong Kong: When Standard Sheets Do Not Fit

An odd-size mattress does not need to fit a standard retail label before a fitted sheet can be made for it. For made-to-measure bedding, the useful information is the actual mattress length, width and height in centimetres.

Our custom-bedding orders regularly include IKEA and imported mattresses, non-standard Hong Kong sizes, platform beds, custom bed frames and mattresses that simply do not match a familiar Single, Double, Queen or King label. We use the actual centimetre measurements as the production reference.
This means an unusual size is not a problem by itself; the key is measuring it accurately and noting any bed-frame restriction that may affect how the fitted sheet is installed.
What counts as an odd-size mattress?
Any mattress that does not match the ready-made fitted sheets you can easily buy may effectively be an odd size for your situation. Common examples include:
- IKEA or European mattresses whose dimensions differ from common Hong Kong retail sizes;
- US or other imported mattresses;
- custom-cut mattresses for built-in or platform beds;
- older mattresses with uncommon dimensions;
- children’s or compact beds that do not follow adult size labels;
- extra-long or extra-wide mattresses.
How to measure an odd-size mattress
- Length: top edge to bottom edge.
- Width: side to side at the widest usable point.
- Height: bottom edge to top sleeping surface.
- Topper: include it in the total height if it permanently sits inside the fitted sheet.
Do not measure an old fitted sheet because it may already be stretched, shrunk or incorrectly sized. See the full mattress measurement guide.
Examples: the label can be misleading
A mattress may be sold as “Double” or “Queen”, but imported brands can use dimensions different from a local product carrying the same label. For production, two mattresses with the same marketing name should be treated as different if their real measurements differ.
Check the bed frame as well as the mattress
For a freestanding mattress, a traditional fitted sheet is usually straightforward. If the mattress is recessed into a platform frame, pushed tightly against a wall or difficult to lift, the fitting dimensions may still be correct but changing the sheet can be inconvenient.
For those cases, compare a traditional fitted sheet with the detachable zipper fitted sheet. The zipper is a construction solution rather than a separate material grade.

What about duvet covers and pillowcases?
